15.980 - Professor Tom Allen talked about technology transfer. The discussion centered around Origination of technical ideas. The 3 main sources are literature, talking to people inside the company and talking to experts outside. The gist - most of the ideas (quantity) generated by speaking to experts out of the company but quality of the ideas generated by talking to people inside the company far outweighs that of the outside experts.
15.969 - Professor Eric Von Hippel informed us that most of the products and services are actually developed by the users who then give these ideas to the manufacturers. He talked by how we can study lead users from our industry and other industries and apply it to new product development - Lead user method.
